As we step into 2025, let’s take a moment to reflect on the achievements that shaped 2024 as a landmark year for us. Despite global economic challenges, Africa’s angel investing ecosystem demonstrated resilience and growth with over $ 25 million invested by angel networks – marking a 25% increase from 2023! This progress was driven by the addition of seven new networks, expanding our membership to 75 networks across 37 countries.

What role are collaborations playing in shaping Africa’s future? In 2024, we also saw a surge in collaborative efforts, with angel investors driving innovation across 25 countries and backing startups that are solving Africa’s most pressing challenges. These collaborations and investments have accelerated entrepreneurship while paving the way for transformative solutions to scale across Africa, addressing critical challenges and unlocking new growth opportunities. “Now’ is the time to invest in Africa. THIS IS HOW WE SHAPE AFRICA’S INVESTMENT LANDSCAPE IN 2024


We reached new heights with significant milestones and impactful collaborations:
  1. Expanded our network by welcoming seven new member networks, boosting our network membership to 75 members.
  2. Celebrated Catalytic Africa’s success marking its 21st transaction with TileGreen, backed by Alexandria Angels, and injecting €60,000 into the ecosystem.
  3. Engaged globally at over 25 ecosystem events, reinforcing our role as a key player driving sustainable growth across Africa’s entrepreneurial landscape.
  4. Connected over 10,000 members, strengthening a pan-African network of investors, entrepreneurs, and ecosystem partners in 25 countries.
  5. Hosted 15 masterclasses attracting over 1,200 attendees, focusing on exits, scaling startups, and climate-smart agriculture.
  6. Built 25+ partnerships with ecosystem hubs, accelerators, and development organizations, amplifying our collective impact.
  7. Fostered investor confidence, with 60% repeat investments, highlighting the growing trust in Africa’s early-stage businesses.
  8. Leveraged diaspora networks, securing event sponsorships and attracting international investors to fuel growth further.

HOW ARE OUR PORTFOLIO COMPANIES TRANSFORMING AFRICA’S ECOSYSTEM? 


Key focusDuhqa and Bee: These standout startups, showcased during the 2024 Ecobank Fintech Challenge, exemplify the power of early-stage funding. Duhqa’s tech-driven logistics platform achieved significant market expansion, while Bee doubled its user base, surpassing 200,000 active accounts.

Keep an eye out for the 2025 Ecobank Fintech Challenge next edition, which kicks off in June 2025, and promises to spotlight the next wave of game-changing startups poised to redefine Africa’s fintech landscape. Investment volume
$25 Million Invested: Angel investors contributed $25M to African startups, marking a 25% increase from 2023.
Average Deal Size: The typical angel investment hovered around $75,000, reflecting confidence in early-stage ventures.
Top sectors funded
Fintech: 40% of all investments, maintaining its dominance as the most attractive sector.
Agri-Tech: 20% of investments, highlighting the growing interest in sustainable solutions.
Health Tech: 15%, driven by demand for accessible and affordable healthcare solutions.
Investor demographics
300+ Active Angel Investors Surveyed: There was a 30% growth in the number of investors compared to the previous year.
Women Investors: Women made up 25% of the angel investing pool, showcasing progress toward inclusivity.
Geographic Spread: West Africa led the pack with 35% of total investments, followed by East Africa at 30%.

Portfolio success
Startups Funded: Over 50% of startups funded in 2024 achieved significant milestones, including market expansion and Series A funding.
Exits: 10% of angels reported successful exits, with notable cases in Nigeria, Kenya, and Egypt.

Challenges Identified
Access to Capital: 40% of investors cited difficulty securing co-investors for larger funding rounds.
Startup Preparedness: 30% of respondents emphasized the need for more founder training programs.
