Dear ABAN Angels and Partners,

With the first quarter of the year in full swing, the energy in Africa’s investment ecosystem is surging. Big moves, bold ideas, and high-impact networking, that’s how we kicked off 2025!

February was packed with groundbreaking moments, from our exclusive “Module 1 Introduction to Angel Investing” powered by SAIS to ecosystem-shaping collaborations. For the second year running, we also took part in two key sessions at the Inclusive Fintech Forum (“Building Bridges: “How KIFC is connecting Africa to the world” and “Path to IPO: What are conditions conducive and necessary for startups in Africa to aspire for IPO-led exits?”) with the key highlight being the launch of our maiden Africa’s Sports & Creative Angel Investment Network!

With March now underway,  our focus is on women in investing, new industry partnerships, celebrating International Women’s Day by recognizing the powerhouse investors and founders redefining Africa’s investment landscape, and exciting upcoming events!

ABAN & INDUSTRY LEADERS JOIN FORCES TO LAUNCH AFRICA’S SPORTS & CREATIVE INVESTOR NETWORK

On 26th February, we launched Africa’s Sports & Creative Early Stage Investor Network, which is the first of its kind on the continent. This initiative, developed with the contributions of industry leaders like TRACE, El Carnaval Limited, and Punuka Attorneys & Solicitors, is dedicated to mobilizing angel capital for high-growth startups in these sectors.

The network will focus on FOUR operational pillars, each designed to drive growth and support for the sector, providing a strategic advantage that ensures long-term sustainability and success across Africa’s sports and creative industries.

1. Education & Capacity Building: Equipping investors with specialized knowledge on due diligence, valuation, and deal structuring in the sports and creative industries.
2. Investment Facilitation: Connecting angel investors with high-potential startups seeking capital.
3. Mentorship & Advisory: Pairing entrepreneurs with seasoned investors and industry veterans to accelerate business growth.
4. Networking & Collaboration: Creating platforms for investors, startups, and ecosystem stakeholders to exchange insights and forge partnerships.
